This was truly an unforgettable experience! We had the best time and saw so many whales up close. Alex and Taylor were the best hosts! They took such good care of us. We loved every minute!
This was an amazing tour! Sarah and Sergio were fantastic on the yacht and really took care of us! Carter was a great driver and picked us up a bit early (due to rain so we didn’t get too wet) and made a stop so we could see the glacier and an eagle up close. I would highly recommend this tour! I don’t have whale photos to post from my phone since I used my big camera but we certainly saw a bunch!
Great captain and Savannah was the best guide! She was enthusiastic and knowledgeable and great at her job. Luckily enough, we saw some whales! But even without that, they made sure to show us sea lions and glaciers and some wonderful views!
Man, what can I say. It’s not cheap, but by golly we got every single penny’s worth of what we paid for. Our captain and guide were extremely knowledgeable and safety conscious. We were traveling with our two young kids (7 and 9) and the crew was also great with them.
Our whale sighting was absolutely magnificent. We saw a group of whales so numerous that even our crew was super excited.
We are picky with cleanliness, and this vessel was clean and in outstanding repair. I had concerns that my wife, who gets motion sick, might have some issues, but the boats they run were big enough so that it was not an issue. It is true, though, that we had a beautiful day - not sure how they would be in inclement weather.
All in all an outstanding, professional operation. Wine onboard was an added bonus.
We booked this outside of our cruise ship, which was in port that day. They were very good about making sure we arrived back with plenty of time prior to departure.

I took an Alaska Luxury Tour with my son Max in June 2023. I am so glad I spent a little extra for a longer tour than most. I also loved that it was a more intimate group and not a ton of people trying to hang their cameras off the boat. The crew taught all of us so much about whales I had no idea I would learn so much and acquire such a great appreciate these magnificent animals!
What an incredible Whale Watching experience in Juneau. We came in on cruise ship and while others chose an excursion through the ship we booked our own tour with Alaska Luxury Tours. We saw many awesome whales and have great pictures to cherish forever. Lisa and Sergio were our incredible naturalist and captain. Would recommend to anyone and everyone !! We were treated like celebrities!

How soon do we need to make a reservation?
Our Luxury Whale Watch tour is offered directly through most cruise lines. It’s best to make a reservation as soon as possible.
Since we only offer exclusive small group experiences, we book up fast. Sometimes a year in advance! If you’re interested in a private departure, please give us a call. Please have your travel details ready when you call so we can organize your whale watch with ease.
What is your cancellation policy?
Your tour is 100% refundable if you cancel at least 30 days before the tour date. Refunds may be subject to a 3% administrative fee. If you cancel 15-29 days prior to your tour date, you’ll receive a 50% refund. If you cancel within 14 days or do not show up for your tour, there is no refund. Refunds are generally processed on the date of your scheduled departure. To confirm a reservation, we require a 50% deposit at the time of booking. If for some reason your ship aborts its call, you will receive a 100% refund on the date of your departure.
How close can we get to the whales?
We’re a member of WhaleSENSE and our yachts adhere to The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) rules.
They state that vessels may not approach humpback whales closer than 100 yards, but considering the massive size of these 90,000-pound creatures, they appear much closer than one would think. Occasionally, though, they may surface closer on their own accord.
Is it better to go whale watching in the morning or in the afternoon?
It really makes no difference. It’s more of a personal preference if you and/or your children are morning people or not. We see humpback whales on all of our trips regardless of the time of day. They’re not more/less active at any particular time of the day.
Can you see whales any time of the day?
Yup. Humpback Whales are mammals and have to surface every 10-15 minutes to breathe. Since they only eat for 6 months of the year while in Alaska, its feeding time all day, every day!
I read that it rains a lot in Southeast Alaska. How bad is it?
Southeast Alaska is located in the largest temperate rainforest on the planet. The average annual rainfall in Juneau is about 75 inches. We receive over 200 days of rain a year, so most likely you should expect rain at some point on our trip. It’s always a good idea to wear/pack layers, including a rainproof outer layer. May and September can be windier and colder. Regardless of the weather, our yachts are climate-controlled and can be totally enclosed to keep you warm and dry.
If there is bad weather, is the tour still on?
We rarely cancel on our guests due to weather, as the conditions on the Inside Passage are relatively calm. Our yachts are stable, seaworthy, and very comfortable regardless of weather conditions. In the unlikely event that we do have to cancel the tour, you’ll receive a full refund.
What should we bring with us for our adventure?
It’s always a good idea to wear/pack warm and waterproof layers in Southeast Alaska. You may also want to bring a camera on your excursion. If you are joining us for the Rainforest & Waterfalls Trek tour, you’ll need to dress in warm, waterproof layers and wear shoes that you are comfortable hiking in.
Is there a restroom onboard?
Of course! Our yachts are equipped with clean and comfortable restrooms. These are not your average marine heads!
What wildlife will we see on our excursion?
Southeast Alaska is the best place on the planet to see Humpback whales in the summer. These amazing marine mammals are the main event. In addition, we may have the opportunity to see other wildlife such as harbor seals, Steller sea lions, bald eagles, Dall’s porpoise, harbor porpoise, and even orca! On a land excursion, we may have the opportunity to see black bears, porcupines, beavers, bald eagles, and salmon

Do you have a whale sighting guarantee?
We see humpback whales on every trip. We promise to do the best we can to find you the most whales during our time together. Large numbers of Humpback whales come to Southeast Alaska every summer to feed. The glacially-enriched waters provide nutrients for plankton and long hours of daylight lead to increased marine productivity. These factors create the perfect feeding grounds for Humpback whales and provide ample viewing opportunities.
Is there a time of year that whale watching is best?
Although Humpback whales are sighted from April to October, the peak months for sighting the most whales in Southeast Alaska are June, July, and August. The temperatures are a bit warmer and all the wildlife in Alaska are at their peak.
Where should we meet you for our adventure?
If you booked directly through your cruise line, an Alaska Luxury Tours representative will meet you near the gangway of your ship. Look for an iPad with the name of your tour. For private bookings, an ALT representative will meet you at your ship or lodging with an iPad displaying the last name of your booking party.
What happens if my ship is delayed getting into port?
No need to worry; we know if your ship is delayed. We automatically adjust your trip time and contact you at the mobile number you provide us. If your ship aborts the call for any reason, we refund you in full without any fees or penalties.
